Wellington City Council are trying to increase public awareness about the challenges and opportunities facing all of our residents (including young adults).

With the recent opening of the Harbour Escarpment walkway in Newlands, we are holding an active public awareness event on 16 December from 11.30 am.

The event will start at Nga Hau e Wha o Paparangi Marae with a brief overview, then Council staff will transport all attendees to the best view of the Harbour Escarpment walkway. Attendees will then walk 30 mins back to the marae, where Kai will be served for lunch. The Mayor, Deputy Mayor and officers will be around to answer any questions and relay information back to Council. There will also be activities available at the marae for youth to participate in.

We’ve also created a Facebook event if it’s easier to share/repost https://www.facebook.com/events/1015005035304682/.

HOUSE OF SCIENCE update
We are proud to offer our students high quality science lessons thanks to House of Science Wellington. As a Wellington member school, each year we receive:

  •  Access to a mobile resource library of curriculum linked science kits delivered and collected to our school every few weeks by volunteers
  • Science Professional Development sessions for a number of our teachers

  • Access to a growing network of local scientific outreach organisations

It costs House of Science thousands of dollars per annum to deliver this service, but thanks to generous sponsors, they are able to severely discount this and charge us only a few hundred dollars per annum to be a member.

Due to growth House of Science Wellington is seeking new sponsors. Do you know of a business that would like to sponsor a science resource kit, in and out of schools all around the Wellington region?  Sponsors’ company logos are displayed on the outside of box(es) they sponsor, on all student worksheets and the teacher manual.  There are other sponsorship opportunities to be involved as well.

STOP PRESS>>> for every new sponsor we find, our school will receive a digital microscope to keep!  For each new sponsor before 20 December, we receive 2!!!

Contact House of Science Wellington’s General Manager on wellington@houseofscience.nz if you can help.  Make sure you tell them which school you are affiliated with!
